Sembol Construction was established in Türkiye, marking the beginning of its global journey.

Sembol began its international expansion beyond Türkiye, laying the foundation for delivering landmark projects worldwide. To date, Sembol has delivered more than 200,000 sqm of built-up area in hospitality, spa, and retail developments.

Sembol entered the UAE market with the design and build of the iconic Zabeel Saray project on Palm Jumeirah. This milestone coincided with the expansion of its operations to six countries and the successful completion of the Pyramid in Astana, designed by renowned architect Lord Norman Foster.

The iconic Khan Shatyr, the world's largest tensile structure designed by renowned architect Lord Norman Foster, was completed in Kazakhstan. This milestone marked a period of diversification, as Sembol expanded its portfolio to include major developments such as shopping centers, congress facilities, stadiums, educational complexes, and office buildings. One of the most prominent projects during this period is the Astana Arena Stadium, with a capacity of 30,000 spectators.

Sembol delivered multiple landmark projects, contributing to the transformation of Astana, Kazakhstan’s capital. This period also saw the completion of 105,000 sqm of hospitality and residential developments in Libya, alongside a major milestone with the successful delivery of works for the Winter Olympics project in Sochi, Russia.

Sembol successfully completed the core structures of Expo 2017, one of the world’s most prestigious international events. This milestone was complemented by the completion of the award-winning Astana Railway Station, further strengthening the company’s presence in Kazakhstan.

Sembol continued its international operations across multiple countries with major projects. In the UAE, the company completed the Rixos Saadiyat Abu Dhabi, a 69,000 sqm luxury resort that introduced a new vision to the Saadiyat tourism destination through its Mediterranean and Arabic architectural concept. At the same time, Sembol was awarded the prestigious Atatürk Cultural Center project in the heart of Istanbul, set to become a landmark for art and culture in the city.

After completing the record-setting Grand Mosque in Astana, Sembol advanced its development portfolio with a large-scale tourism destination in Aktau, Kazakhstan. Spanning over 200,000 sqm of built-up area, the project included hotels, golf complexes, theme park attractions, and retail developments. This period also marked SML’s expansion into Oman and Saudi Arabia, increasing its international footprint to 9 countries.

SML Engineering was established in the UAE, carrying forward Sembol’s 25-year global legacy. Building on its expertise in design and development, the company aims to become one of the leading contractors in the UAE. The company closely analyzes market conditions and continues to invest in its human resources.

SML was awarded its first project, an 83,000 sqm BUA hospital development in Ajman. The project represents a significant contribution to the Emirate’s healthcare infrastructure. Following the award, SML promptly mobilized and commenced construction activities on site, delivering a strong performance. SML obtained ADNOC-approved contractor status and received its first ICV certification, reinforcing its commitment to contributing to the UAE’s local economy.

SML was awarded two new projects with a total built-up area of 170,000 sqm, including an offshore development and border crossing facilities between the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Both projects reflect the company’s capability to operate in challenging environments, drawing on Sembol’s extensive experience. This year, SML opened its office in Abu Dhabi Marina while expanding its team with highly skilled, multinational professionals.
